Ten Oaks Project by Justinvl

I had the pleasure of photographing the Ten Oaks Project’s annual bowl-a-thon fundraiser yesterday where they surpased their fundraising goal.

"The Ten Oaks Project engages and connects children and youth from LGBTQ+ communities through programs and activities rooted in play."

Amanda Fiona by Justinvl

Sometimes going through your back-catalogue is a worthy endeavour. This is a test shot that Amanda assisted me on from May 2012… I like it better than the *actual* photos from the shoot and some of my recent stuff. It’s a reminder to go back to basics sometime.

Strobist info: Elinchrom Ranger Quadra through a beauty dish high at camera right angled down. Triggered with skyports.

Erin White by Justinvl

"Testosterone got you into this, let estrogen get you out."

When your subject is a female tow-truck operator with this on her business card and a few well-placed Muppets tattoos you know you’re going to have a good time, even if the shoot follows a major snowstorm. Unpublished portrait for Ottawa-Woman.

Strobist info: 2 x 1/4 CTS’d Canon 600ex-RT’s through a Westcott 28" Apollo Softbox at camera left. A third 600ex-rt is Justin-clamped to the bumper aimed up for some separation light.

Trevor Ryan’s gone plaid by Justinvl

Personal Trainer and fitness model Trevor Ryan needed a break from being a ripped stud known only for his awesome muscles, so we indulged in some nice window light and pensive thought.

Strobist info: soft overcast clouds at camera left through amorpheous solid silicate. Canon 600ex-RT with sto-fen set to TTL -1 through a 6×3 Westcott scrim Jim at camera right for fill. Triggered with ST-E3-RT

Desirae Profile by Justinvl

Another profile shot of Des from my lighting workshop yesterday here in Ottawa.

Strobist info: Elinchrom Ranger Quadra through an ebay special strip with grid at camera right, high and gobo’d for the bottom 2/3rds, a lastolite trigrip 1-stop diffuser was held in front of that to further soften the light. A white dollar-store V-flat was held at camera left for the faintest bit of fill on her hair.

John Rathwell – All the Flash by Justinvl

As an exercise in excess, a few photographers got together to test out the (to be released) LumoPro LP180. In this case, I decided to add a few extra’s to the test.

Look for my review on Canonrumors.com tomorrow

Strobist info: 2x Canon 600EX RT’s and 3x LP180’s in a 60" Photek Softlighter boomed to camera right (you can see the shadow cast at left). The LP’s were in optical trigger mode and the Canon’s were set to manual which were in-turn triggered by the Canon ST-E3-RT

Erin Blaskie – the “Elbow Pose” by Justinvl

I’ve done a shot like this before, it’s not always flattering, but when it works it looks pretty cool.
